Recombinant human growth hormone treatment for dilated cardiomyopathy in children.

OBJECTIVE Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is one of the most common causes of heart failure among children and is often progressive despite maximal medical therapy. Heart failure is characterized by a number of neurohormonal abnormalities, including derangements in the growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) signaling axis. Decreased serum levels of GH, which acts on cardiac myocy...

An examination of the effects of different doses of recombinant human growth hormone on children with growth hormone deficiency

The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of different doses of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) on children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and on thyroid and glucose metabolism to identify more reasonable therapeutic doses of growth hormone (GH) for the treatment of this condition. In total, 60 prepubertal patients with GHD were randomly divided into the high-dose an...

Relationship between initial treatment effect of recombinant human growth hormone and exon 3 polymorphism of growth hormone receptor in Chinese children with growth hormone deficiency.

The aim of this study is to investigate the frequency distribution of exon 3 deleted (d3-GHR) genetic polymorphism of growth hormone receptor (GHR) in growth hormone deficient (GHD) Chinese children and to explore the correlation between the growth promoting effects of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) and exon 3 genetic polymorphism of GHR in GHD children. In this study, 111 GHD (exclude...

Clinical studies with recombinant-DNA-derived methionyl human growth hormone in growth hormone deficient children.

Thirty-six children with growth hormone deficiency were treated for up to 48 months with methionyl human growth hormone (hGH) synthesised by DNA recombinant methods. The growth rate for these children increased from 3.2 +/- 1.1 cm/yr to 10.5 +/- 2.2 cm/yr (mean +/- SD). This was similar to the effect of pituitary hGH in ten GH deficient children, 3.8 +/- 1.0 to 10.1 +/- 1.1 cm/yr. Serum somatom...
